Disney Review: Port Orleans Riverside {Royal Guest Room}

Recently we got the chance to stay at Port Orleans Riverside in a newly refurbished Royal Guest Room. Initially I heard that Port Orleans was a really neat resort, but I did not know much about the Royal Rooms. These rooms can only be found in Oak Manor and Parterre Place and come with  a preferred location-close to the pool/bus stop/main building. These rooms are not remodeled rooms, just refurbished, but they did not disappoint. Right before our trip I read a review stating these rooms were at best comparable to a Ramada Inn room. I would say that review was wrong!

The rooms are smaller than rooms at a deluxe resort, so if you are used to that then the size of these rooms may seem small to you. We really liked the Royal Rooms. They are perfect for young girls who love princesses. There are touches all around the room from various Disney princess movies. Each room has a small two-seater bistro table and on it is a letter from your host, Princess Tiana. Perfect since Port Orleans is set down on the Bayou!

Other fun touches around the room include framed portraits of Tiana and all her princess friends, hooks featuring Cinderella’s carriage, golden genie lamp faucets in the bathroom, and a fun magic carpet on the floor.

Perhaps the most fun feature of these rooms for young princesses are the headboards. Each headboard has a side button and when pressed the boards light up! It only runs for a few seconds, but our kids never grew tired of pressing those buttons.

The room was well equipped with a nice mini fridge, plenty of drawer space, and a flat screen TV. There are two queen beds in each room. Our room spotless upon check in. The views of the resort around the Royal Rooms are pretty nice as well. We had a garden view room in Parterre Place. The fountains and flowers within the garden were really nice. We were also near the river and short walk to the main lobby, dining halls, and South Depot bus stop.

All in all, we give this resort 5 stars. The theme is great-not too over the top. The room was very comfortable. The price was affordable. The pools at this resort were great too (sorry no pics!). As mentioned, the Royal Rooms and grounds are clean and beautiful. There is also a ferry boat service that takes you from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney, a nice change of pace from the bus rides.

This is a large resort, much like Caribbean Beach. It can be a hike to fill your mugs at the quick service restaurant, Riverside Mill. Once you get your bearings and find the best route from your room to the main building/pool/bus depot you should be good to go. The walks are enjoyable though, as there is much to see and the landscaping is beautiful. The trekking around might be the only con of this resort.

If you don’t want to pay deluxe resort prices and would like a really nice place to stay during your next Disney vacation you should consider Port Orleans Riverside {and book a Royal Room if your family would enjoy it!}.
