Everyone needs a little change of pace from time to time. But what happens when your budget won’t allow for vacation fun? Sharp Moms loves the idea of a Staycation. This idea is sweeping America and we have some great ideas for you and your family.

Turn Your Home Into a Spa

You don’t need a fancy spa to rejuvenate yourself. Call up your best gal pals, bust out the robes and champagne, choose your favorite nail polish colors, and enjoy and day of relaxation in the comfort of your own home.

Family Hiking Adventure

You don’t need a lot of experience for this one. Lace up your boots, pack a picnic lunch, and hit the great outdoors with your family. Not only will you be getting some great exercise, but your kids will enjoy the adventure as well. What to spice it up? Sharp Moms likes the idea of bringing your bikes on the adventure. You don’t need to be cycling extraordinaire, just stay on the trails instead of the streets.

Family Picnic

Get together a basket full of goodies and head to your local park for an afternoon of fun. Take a kite or frisbee for extra fun. The cost is minimal, but the memories will be priceless! For even more family fun, turn your picnic into a night time adventure by camping out in your backyard. Don’t forget the s’mores!

Host a Girls Night In

Single Moms: this is great way to connect with your girlfriends over good food and good conversation. Plan a night of cocktails and appetizers or kick it up a notch and serve a meal. You’ll have fun enjoying a nice meal and reminiscing with your friends.

Have a Field Day

Remember the three-legged race you participated in during third grade? Bring back all the fun of a school field day. You can do this as a family or include the neighborhood kids too. Plan on lots of events, like freeze tag, water balloon toss, tug of war and end the days events with popsciles and lemonade. Your kids will thank you for this one!

Plan a TV Night

This can be for you and your husband, your family, or celebrated with friends. Catch up on your TIVO’d shows with your gal pals over pizza and wine. Create a family picnic on your own living room floor and watch your family’s favorite shows. Cuddle up with your significant other for a night of popcorn and ice cream on the couch. Anyway you plan it, this staycation is bound to be fun!

Host a Neighborhood Block Party

Sharp Moms likes what Denise in Kentucky says, “I planned a neighborhood barbecue. I put flyers in paperboxes a week before, loaded up on hotdogs and hamburgers. Everyone brought a side dish to share. The kids wore bathing suits and we set up kiddie pools, sprinklers, and water hoses. Everyone had a great time and we made some new friends!”

Throw a Hawaiian Luau

Aloha! This is great afternoon party idea that is so simple it’s scary! All you need are some colorful decorations and lei’s from your local party store. Don’t have your own inground pool? Sharp Mom’s likes meeting up at the local pool or even better, bring out the slip ‘n’ slide for extra fun at home.

Plan a Pizza Night

Gather up all the toppings your heart desires, pizza sauces, cheeses and get to work! Your children will enjoy creating their own pizza and you can get in some good family time in the process. This staycation idea is sure to be delicious!
